It was a long time coming, but the Victorian swimming community were finally able to come together on Saturday 26 June to celebrate the 2020 and 2021 Swimming Victoria Awards. With a last-minute move to MSAC Arena to ensure COVID safety, the occasion was certainly worth the wait.

Hosted by Swimming Victoria Life Member Gary Barclay and recognising both our 2020 and 2021 award winners, the event was a bumper celebration of swimming and a great opportunity to catch up after a challenging period for Victorians.

Off the back of an outstanding performance at the recent Australian Swimming Trials which saw him qualify for his first Olympics, it was no surprise that Matthew Temple was awarded the 2021 Nicole Livingstone Trophy as the Victorian Swimmer of the Year. Fellow Olympian, Mack Horton claimed the 2020 title.

Col Pearse, who is preparing for his first Paralympics, was awarded the 2021 Ellie Cole Trophy for Victorian Multi Class Swimmer of the Year. His Paralympic teammate, Ahmed Kelly took out the 2020 Award. In a nod to Col’s success, his coach Matt King was also named Victorian Multi Class Coach of the Year.

In addition to Matt, we saw a number of Victoria’s finest coaches recognised for their achievements. Nunawading’s Wayne Lawes, who is also heading to Tokyo, was awarded the Jack Foster Trophy for Victorian Coach of the Year.

Nunawading Swimming Club took out the top spot in the Top 10 Club Award in both 2020 and 2021. The powerhouse club also claimed the VASA Relay Trophy, the Male and Female Victorian Premiership Awards and the Fred Blunt Trophy for the club scoring the highest aggregate points in the Victorian Long Course Championships for both years.

Geelong Swimming Club climbed to third place in the 2021 Top 10 Club Award after finishing 7th in 2020. They were also crowned 2021 Club of the Year. Northcote Swimming & Lifesaving Club made waves in 2020, finishing 3rd in the Top 10 Club Award and going on to be awarded 2020 Club of the Year.

Some of our most dedicated technical officials were recognised for their outstanding commitment to swimming. The Bill Slade Trophy for 2021 Technical Official of the Year was awarded to Louise Mellington, with Sally Whitehouse taking home the 2020 award.

A number of our long-standing officials were awarded service pins, including an impressive 40 years’ service from Sandy Frame and Don Alchin – an outstanding achievement!

Congratulations to all our 2020 and 2021 award winners, to view the full list click here.
