Swimming Victoria’s Performance Pathways Manager, Gary Barclay has accepted the position of General Manager – Performance Pathways with Swimming Australia.

Gary has been an influential member of the Swimming Victoria team since joining in early 2021 and we thank him for his significant contribution to the organisation.

The strengthening of Victorian pathways will continue to be a focus for Gary as he transitions into the new role. He will remain Melbourne-based and will work closely with SV and Victorian Technical Director, Leigh Nugent to support our athletes and coaches.

Swimming Victoria CEO, Jason Hellwig congratulated Gary on his appointment.

“Gary has a remarkable amount of expertise and knowledge which will be a great benefit for Australian swimming. While we are sad to see him leave, we are also very proud to see Victorian talent once again recognised at a national level.  We look forward to continuing to work with him and wish him every success in his new role with Swimming Australia.” said Hellwig.

Gary is excited to continue to support Victorian athletes and coaches in his new role.

“This role provides me with the opportunity to make a difference through strong leadership and support of coaches and athletes around the country.  It enables me to further progress the coach development initiatives, pathway programs and support structures for young Australian athletes to progress onto senior Australian swim teams.  I have thoroughly enjoyed my time working with the Swimming Victoria staff, coaches and athletes over the past 12 months, and am very excited about the journey ahead” he said.

We thank Gary for his contribution to Victorian swimming and wish him all the very best in his new role.
