Swimming Victoria has today launched our first Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) Strategy.

Developed by a volunteer working group with members from our Diversity & Inclusion Advisory Committee (DIAC), the strategy has been an 18 month project that consulted with Board, Staff, DIAC and industry. The draft was shared amongst colleagues at Sport & Recreation Victoria and Vic Sport, before our Board endorsed the final draft in March.

Roman Ruzbacky, DEI practitioner and avid swimmer said ‘he was delighted to combine his two passions, and is excited to part of the strategic direction of DEI for Victorian swimming”. Roman was joined on the working group with DEI consultants, Veema Mooniapah and Jill Sears, SV Director Matt Haanappel OAM PLY and SV Sport Development Manager Clare Burton.

The strategy will focus on building the foundations of an inclusive culture that will drive and contribute to our long-term sustainability and ongoing success.

We are committed to developing an organisation reflective of our community and provide an environment that is welcoming, safe, accessible, equitable and inclusive, where we appreciate and celebrate our differences. Through the development and implementation of our strategy we will:

  • Create an even more inclusive Swimming Victoria.
  • Match our organisational performance with our world class performance in the water.
  • Achieve better social outcomes and services for the community.
  • Provide life-long engagement and activity for our community.

We will focus on five priority areas over the next three years:

  • Community Engagement, Collaboration and Participation.
  • Safety, Respect and Belonging.
  • Pathways to Swimming.
  • Education.
  • Excellence with Equity.

These will form the foundation of our strategy.
