Swimming Australia is proud to announce it has secured hosting rights for a Para Swimming World Series event in 2022.

Launched in 2017, the Para Swimming World Series offers athletes from around the world regular competition and classification opportunities.

Ahead of an exciting 2022 season, including the World Championships in Madeira, Portugal and the Birmingham Commonwealth Games, many of the world’s best Para swimmers will start the year, and the Paris Olympic cycle off in February, with the meet to be held in conjunction with the Victorian State Swimming Championships from February 18 – 20.

Swimming Australia’s General Manager – Paralympic Program, Adam Pine, said the event would provide an important platform for athletes to launch their 2022 campaign and the path to Paris 2024.

“Para Swimming World Series Australia will be a critical stepping stone for a number of our athletes ahead of a significant and very compressed schedule next year,” Pine said.

“Not only will it provide a competitive benchmark ahead of the World Championships and Commonwealth Games, it will also be an opportunity for classification for a number of our up and coming athletes who will be pushing for selection in those teams.”

Swimming Victoria Events Manager, Ashlea Keramidopoulos is looking forward to having the Para world series as part of the Victorian Championships.

“The value of international competition here at home is important and I am sure all the athletes will be looking forward to performing in front of a passionate crowd.”

All athletes' results at each World Series edition are calculated using a standardised World Para Swimming points system via an online virtual competition platform.

This ensures that the overall World Para Swimming World Series winner will be the best performing athlete over the duration of the series, meaning that every performance counts.
