After a huge week of swimming, the 2022 Australian Age Championships have wrapped up in Adelaide and our Victorian athletes have come home with some outstanding results and an impressive medal tally.

It was our best performance at the Championships in recent times, with a total of 63 medals, including 21 Gold, 22 Silver and 20 Bronze. The results are a testament to the resilience and determination of our Victorian swimmers.

Following on from the Australian Para Swimming Championships, the Australian Age Multi Class Championships were up first. Surrey Park’s Imogen Nolan was in fine form, winning Gold in the Girls 12-14 Years 50m and 100m Breaststroke events. She also took home Bronze in the 12-14 Years 50m & 100m Backstroke MC events.

Traralgon’s Kayla Wilson was another standout performer, claiming the national title in the Girl’s 15-16 Years 50m Breaststroke MC. The 16 year old added 2 Silver medals to her swag in the 50m Freestyle and 100m Breaststroke and a Bronze in the 16-18 Years 200m IM.

Fresh from being crowned 16 Year Old Age Group Champion at the Victorian Age Championships last month, the dream run continued for Isabella Boyd. The Nunawading swimmer had victories in the Girls 16 Years 50m Freestyle and 50m Butterfly. She also claimed Silver medals in the 100m and 200m Freestyle, 100m Butterfly and 200m IM, proving she’s one to watch in years to come.

Nunawading teammate, William Petric was unstoppable in the Individual Medley events. The 17 year old went back to back to become the Australian Champion in the 400m and 200m IM. He also took home Silver in the Boys 17 Years 100m Butterfly and Bronze in the 100m and 200m Breaststroke events.

North West Aquatic’s Jacob Nimmo was on fire in the Boys 15 Years 100m Breaststroke, claiming the club’s second Australian title in 18 years. He backed it up in the 50m Breaststroke, adding a second title to his name.

This year’s Championships, saw the inclusion of 4 x 50m State Relays, giving the swimmers an exciting opportunity to represent their state on the national stage. The Victorian athletes relished the opportunity, producing Gold medals in the Boys 16-17 4 x 50m Freestyle Relay and the Mixed 16-17 4 x 50m Medley relay and a Bronze in the Girls 15-16 4 x 50m Freestyle Relay.
