Awards Summary

The Top 10 Club Award

The Top 10 Club Award ranks club performances throughout the Victorian Championship season to determine a Victorian Champion Club.

John Marshall Trophy

The John Marshall Trophy is awarded to the athlete who attains the Highest Aggregate Point score in freestyle events at the Victorian Open Championships.  Marshall was an influential figure in Australian swimming who broke 28 freestyle world records between 1950 and 1954.  

VWASA Trophy

The Victorian Women’s Amateur Swimming Association (VWASA) Trophy is awarded to the female who attains the Highest Aggregate Point score in freestyle events at the Victorian Open Championships. VWASA merged into the Victorian Amateur Swimming Association (VASA) in 1964 with their life members becoming Associate Life Members of VASA and then in 1991 full Life Members of Swimming Victoria. The Olympic Women’s club presented the trophy to the VWASA in 1957.

HA Bennett Trophy

The HA Bennett Trophy is awarded to the swimmer (male or female) nearest to the Australian backstroke record. Horace Albert Bennett was one of the best-known names in Australian with his career spanning over 50 years. Although adept in all strokes, it was backstroke where Bennett excelled. He also officiated at state, national and international level and was awarded with Swimming Victoria life membership in 1945.

Breaststroke Award

Awarded to the Male or Female swimmer achieving the highest FINA Point score for a Breaststroke event in the current season.  This can be swum at any long course meet and in any of the three recognised Breaststroke events 50M, 100M & 200M. 

Butterfly Award

Awarded to the Male or Female swimmer achieving the highest FINA Point score for a Butterfly event in the current season.  This can be swum at any long course meet and in any of the three recognised Butterfly events 50M, 100M & 200M. 

The Individual Medley Award

Awarded to the Male or Female swimmer achieving the highest FINA point score for an Individual Medley event in the current season. This can be swum at any long course meet and in any of the three recognised Individual Medley events (200mts, 400mts)

Herald Sun News Pictorial Trophies

The Herald Sun News Pictorial Trophies are awarded to the highest ranked 18 & under male and female swimmers during the past season.

Allan Blue Memorial Trophy

The Allan Blue Trophy is based on FINA points and is awarded to the most outstanding country swimmer.  Allan Blue was the doyen of Victorian selectors, starting his career as a competitor in 1929 and continuing until his death in 1980. He was awarded life membership of Swimming Victoria in 1952.

VASA Relay Trophy

The Victorian Amateur Swimming Association (VASA) Trophy is awarded to the club scoring the highest aggregate points in relay events at the Victorian Open Championships.

Victorian Premierships (Male & Female)

Victorian Premierships are awarded to the clubs with the highest male and female aggregate points across the Victorian Age and Open Championships.

Fred Blunt Trophy

The Fred Blunt Trophy is awarded to the Premier Club attaining the Highest Combined Aggregate point score at the Victorian Open Championships. Fred Blunt was believed to have been awarded this cup for winning a 500 yard event in Geelong in the late 19th Century. This cup, reminiscent of the English FA soccer cups,   was given to VASA in 1974 by Mrs J.D.Key,   for perpetual competition in honour of Fred Blunt.

Bill Slade Trophy

The Bill Slade Trophy is awarded to the most outstanding Official of the Year.  This person should epitomise everything an official should be. At just 14 years of age he was elected as the honorary secretary of the Abbotsford Swimming Club.  At age 17 he joined the Executive of the Victorian Amateur Swimming Association (VASA) and remained on the Executive for 33 years. In 1955 he was awarded Life Membership of Swimming Victoria and in 1976 was elected as President; a position he held until 1989.

The Melissa Robert's Trophy 

Awarded to the most outstanding Victorian Open Water competitor in the current season and the most outstanding Open Water Age Group Competitor in the current season.

Victorian Multi Class Swimmer of the Year

The Victorian Multi Class Swimmer of the Year is awarded to the most outstanding Victorian Multi-Class competitor in the current season.

Victorian Age Swimmer of the Year

The Victorian Age Swimmer of the Year is awarded to the most outstanding Victorian Age Group competitor in the current season. Only age group events are considered when determining the winner.

Victorian Swimmer of the Year

The Victorian Swimmer of the Year is awarded to the most outstanding Victorian competitor in the current season. This award is being presented for the first time

President’s Trophy

The President’s Trophy is awarded to the most outstanding competitor in the current season. It is decided by Swimming Victoria’s President in consultation with the Swimming Victoria Selectors.

Officials Service Pins

Awarded to Swimming Victoria Officials for their service.

Club of the Year

The Swimming Victoria Club of the Year Award has been introduced in 2016 to encourage increased professionalism in the club environment, and recognize clubs that have gone above and beyond within their community and the sport of swimming. 

Volunteer of the Year

Awarded to extraordinary, dedicated and inspirational members to recognise their contribution within the Victorian swimming community. 

The Best New Official of the Year

Awarded to recognise and reward a New Official who has made an outstanding contribution to the sport in their early years of officiating. 

Young Leaders Award

The Swimming Victoria Young Leaders Award has been established to recognise and reward an individual aged between 15 – 23 years who has shown outstanding leadership within their Swimming Club.

GVSS Club Champions
