Club Development

Swimming Victoria and Swimming Australia are committed to support their affiliated clubs to deliver high quality swimming programs.

This page will provide you with information on the development opportunities affiliated clubs can access.

Proposed Club Registration System

Over the last twelve months Swimming Victoria has been working on developing “entry level standards” for club/district registration.  Our goal is to have our clubs achieve a minimum benchmark to elevate them to a level of best practice in governance and administrative processes and to be successful and sustainable into the future.

In May this year we initiated a working party (swimming club/district representatives & external consultant) to investigate what best practice could look like and what were the areas of importance regarding Clubs & Districts and what would form the best possible club/district registration process.

After months of discussions with the swimming fraternity, regional sports assemblies, sport administrators and researching other State Sporting organisations registration systems, a three tiered registration system was drafted.

To achieve the best possible system it is important that we now begin discussion/consultation with Swimming Victoria’s broader swimming community and receive feedback and suggestions to the proposed club registration system.

This is your time to have input into what will become the club/district registration model in the future.  We ask that you table the draft document at your next committee meeting for discussion and provide feedback to Swimming Victoria, via Survey Monkey survey listed below, by Wednesday 28 February 2018.

Regional Development Day

The Regional Development Day is designed to be an ‘all in one’ development day, whereSwimming Victoria will deliver a number of workshops to further develop skills and provide personal development for coaches, officials, club administrators and volunteers. The day will be designed around the needs of each district and can also incorporate pool and education sessions for swimmers and parents.

The events will involve interaction with elite athletes, guest speakers and leading Victorian coaches, with activities ranging from interactive workshops to presentations to pool sessions for the swimmers, or come n try sessions for potential new members.  Depending on the needs of the district, there can be a full program for officials including Inspector of Turns, Judge of Strokes, Marshalling & Check Starting, Starter and SWD Referee Extension. It is also possible to incorporate Coach Development courses such as the Swim Australia – Teacher of Competitive Strokes course. Essentially, the program will be dictated by the district to fulfil the needs relevant to the members within that district

Club Health Check

The Club Health Checklist has been developed by the Australian Sports Commission.  It is a tool aimed to assist clubs with their overall management, governance and planning.  Swimming Australia has worked with the Sports Commission to modify this Checklist for Swimming Clubs across Australia. The Club Health Checklist has replaced the former GO Club PB Workbook.

The checklist, which should take no longer than 30 minutes to complete has been designed to be completed by 2-3 committee members, who have an overall view of the operations and activities of the club. Upon completion of the checklist, a report is sent to the club. The report includes areas of strengths, focus areas and links to resources to assist clubs in planning and moving forward.

We encourage all Clubs to complete the Club Health Checklist as soon as possible.
