Congratulations to Tommy Lane and Harvey Larke who competed at the Commonwealth Youth Games at the National Aquatic Centre in Couva, Trinidad from 4-11 August. They were part of a team of 12 swimmers who were selected to represent Australia.
The team was led by Head Coach, Tracey Menzies-Stegbauer and was supported by Cheltenham Head Coach, Kelly Stubbins who described it as one of the most challenging, yet rewarding teams she has been a part of.
“All 12 of the swimmers Australia sent were so professional in the way they went about preparing for each of their events. From crazy police escorts to get us to the pool, a 'feels like' temperature of 38 degrees with no Aircon, lack of athlete friendly food, 34 degree warm up pool and power outages, you wouldn't know it in how these kids handled themselves and performed. The future of Australian swimming is in good hands with this next gen coming through,” said Stubbins.
The swimmers achieved some fantastic results, along with gaining valuable experience in competing against some of the best young athletes from around the world in a significant multi-sport competition.
