Day 4 of the Australian Swimming Trials at Brisbane Aquatic Centre

Night 4 of the Australian Swimming Trials at the Brisbane Aquatic Centre kicked off with a bang  with Olivia Lefoe (Nunawading) racing in the highly contested final of the Women’s 200m Backstroke. She secured 8th place, touching in at 2:14.81. The B final featured another 3 Victorian athletes, Abbey Kearney (Nunawading), Mia Holah (Surrey Park) and Alannah Banks (Surrey Park) who placed 13th, 14th and 15th respectively.

The Men’s 200m IM was next, where the Victorians put on an epic show, with 6 Victorian swimmers lining up in the A and B finals. In Final A, William Petric (Nunawading) took out the win with a time of 1:59.23, narrowly missing the qualifying time but putting himself in a strong position for selection. Touching in close behind was David Schlicht (MLC Aquatic) in 4th place and Marco Soesanto (Melbourne Vicentre) who finished in 7th place. In the B final, Evan Chee (Nunawading), Callum Halloran-Lavelle (Caulfield) and Jack Gurrie (Nunawading) also gave stellar performances.

The final of the Men’s 100m Breaststroke multiclass featured Liam England (Nunawading) who placed 8th overall, touching in with a time of 1:25.31.

It was also exciting to see Victorians represented in the B finals of the Women’s 200m Butterfly, where Mia Yeo (Cheltenham) finished 14th overall and in the Women’s 800m Freestyle Mackenzie Hunter (MLC Aquatic) secured 12th position.

An outstanding  day for Victorian swimming overall, with an incredible 56 athletes taking part in Day 4 of the trials, the highest of any day so far.
