Future stars excite at Vic Age SC Champs

1200 of Victoria’s best age group swimmers lit up the pool at the Melbourne Sports and Aquatic Centre (MSAC) over the weekend with 3 days of fast paced action at the Victorian Age SC Championships. There was some great swimming on display from our aspiring young athletes and this combined with the electric atmosphere, made for a fantastic Championships!

Over the 3 days of competition, 39 individual records were broken and with the introduction of multi class and relay records, 36 new records were set.

North West Aquatic young gun, Stone Ma was a standout performer, spending a lot of his time on top of the dais. The 13-year-old took home an impressive 8 Gold medals, breaking 5 Victorian records and 4 Victorian Allcomers records along the way.

Age SC Champs veteran, David Schlicht went out with a bang in his last year competing at the Championships. The MLC Aquatic swimmer claimed 6 Gold medals and smashed 8 records (4 Victorian and 4 Victorian Allcomers), including 4 of his own records in the 200m and 400m IM events.

In the female events, Olivia Lefoe dominated, taking home medals from all her events with 7 Gold, 2 Silver and a Bronze – an impressive haul form the MLC Aquatic swimmer. She broke a four year old Victorian Allcomers record in the Girls 15 Year Old 50m Freestyle, hitting the wall at 25.54.

Gabi Peiniger from Melbourne Vicentre also got our attention, medaling in all 8 of her events, she bagged 4 Gold and 4 Silver medals. She was unstoppable in the Girls 16 Year Old 100m Backstroke, breaking the Victorian and Victorian Allcomers records as she claimed victory in a time of 59.76.

  2. MLC Aquatic – 2008
  3. Northcote – 1145
  4. Surrey Park – 1119
  5. Melbourne Vicentre – 956

But the highlights weren’t just in the pool. The Championships were a wonderful example of the swimming community coming together to make the event a success. We’d like to thank our technical officials, timekeepers and volunteers for all their hard work across the weekend. Special mention also to Nunawading Swimming Club and MLC Aquatic who stepped up to the plate (pun intended) and provided catering to our officials and timekeepers.
