Hogan Lends a Helping Hand

23 May 2019
Hayley Hogan loves giving back to swimming.

At just 21-years-old, Victoria’s Hayley Hogan is one of the youngest technical officials in the system.

Starting in the volunteer role a few years ago, Hogan is passionate and dedicated to giving back to the swimming community – the sport is close to her heart.

“I first got involved in officiating around three years ago because I decided it would be a fantastic way to give back to the sport that has given me so much – I was a national level swimmer myself,” Hogan told Swimming Australia.

“I officiate because swimming is something that I am passionate about, and I am also giving opportunities for athletes to achieve their goals, because without officials, this wouldn’t be possible.”

Her rewarding role has seen the Shepparton local build friendships across the country – another positive to becoming a technical official.

“My favourite part of volunteering is being able to meet different people from all over Australia and forming lifelong friendships.”

Having already officiated many state championships in Victoria, as well as two national championships, Hogan is looking forward to seeing where her volunteering can take her and encourages those that are interested to give it a go.

“If it is something that you are passionate about then do it, because it is so rewarding.”

This week marks National Volunteer Week (20-26 May), which celebrates and recognises the six million Australians who volunteer their time to different causes around the country.
