Swimming Victoria is excited to announce that Wayne Lawes has joined the team as Coach Development Director.

Wayne has an extensive swimming background and brings with him a long list of qualifications and achievements. He has coached many Olympic and international swimmers and in 2016 he was awarded the Australian Coaches Association Award for Outstanding Contribution to Australian Swimming.

Wayne will work across Victoria and Tasmania in the delivery of State & District development programs and activities, underpinning the Victorian Performance Pathways Program. He will also work closely with SAL State Head Coach – Victoria & Tasmania, Rohan Taylor in setting the annual themes and curriculum to provide an integrated and progressive pathway for swimmers and coaches.

The aim of this role is to enhance the depth of performance of clubs and coaches within Victoria and contribute to the achievement of Swimming Victoria’s participation and performance objectives.

The two key focus areas for Wayne’s role within Victoria will be:

  1. On deck technical support and mentoring for coaches, specifically within the Junior Talent Program and Country Squad.
  2. Delivery the SV District Development Program across the State, providing clinics and coach education.

Wayne will also deliver JX and Development Squad activities in Tasmania.

Wayne is looking forward to helping develop coaches and young swimmers to become more skilful and to learn and grow within the sport. “The current coaching landscape in Victoria is exciting, with coaches working together and sharing ideas. Knowledge is not power, it’s what you do with the knowledge that counts. We must all become students of the sport” said Lawes.

We welcome Wayne and look forward to working with him to help and support our swimmers and coaches.
