Over 1200 of Victoria’s best age group swimmers across 3 action packed days in 2 pools made for 1 huge weekend of racing at the 2023 Victorian Age Short Course Championships from 1-3 September at MSAC.
There was some fantastic swimming on display from our aspiring young athletes with 10 individual records (2 Victorian, 3 Victorian Allcomers and 5 Country) and 3 relay records broken. This combined with the electric atmosphere, made for a memorable Championships!
In the Girls 14 Years events, Annie Steele (coached by Jackson Sainty) was a dominant force. The St Leonard’s College swimmer bagged an impressive 5 Gold, 1 Silver and 2 Bronze medals.
Nunawading’s Tharwin Prarom (coached by Dan Gill) was another top performer. He added 5 state titles to his name as well as 3 Silver medals in the Boys 14 Years events.
Nunawading once again took out the Winter Short Course Trophy for the highest aggregate points across both Victorian Short Course Championships.

Well done to all our swimmers, coaches and clubs. For full results click here.
The excitement wasn’t just in the pool, for the first time ever, Hawk-Eye was in full operation across both pools, providing video timing during the Championships. This meant that no Timekeepers were required on pool deck, giving back thousands of hours to our volunteers.
With help from BigVoice Media Group, the footage from Hawk-Eye was also utilised to provide live streaming via our YouTube channel. The broadcast was enhanced by our growing team of commentators who kept viewers informed and entertained throughout the Championships.
To add to the spectator experience, we saw the return of the bar area and balcony viewing, which was the place to be during finals sessions!
We’d like to thank everyone involved in making these Championships such a success, in particular our technical officials and volunteers for all their efforts. Running two pools simultaneously takes a lot of hard work and dedication and we couldn’t do it without you.
We now look forward to our long course season which kicks off with the JX Start LC Hit-Out on Saturday 14 October. For more information click here.
