Our Australian Dolphins have swum their way into the history books at the 2022 World Para Swimming Championships in Madeira, Portugal from 12-18 June.

The 21 strong squad becoming the first ever Australian travelling swim team where every eligible athlete brought home a medal.

The inspirational team secured 7 Gold, 15 Silver and 9 Bronze, finishing 7th on the overall medal tally against the best para swimmers in the world.

Adding 2 Silver medals to the tally was our very own Col Pearse (Nunawading) who also broke an Oceanic Record while he was at it!

Pearse qualified third fastest in his heat of the Men’s 200m Individual Medley SM10. He went four seconds quicker in the final, pulling off a personal best time of 2:13.76 to claim his first Silver, improving on his Tokyo Paralympic performance.

He backed it up in his pet event, the Men’s 100m Butterfly S10 where he set a new Oceanic Record, with another personal best time of 57.17, securing his second Silver. A remarkable effort from the 18 year old.

He completed his campaign with the Men’s 100m Backstroke S10, putting in another strong performance to finish 5th in the final with his time 1:03.82.

He now turns his attention to the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham which kick off on 28 July.

Good luck Col!
