Vale Geoffrey Hare OAM
Swimming Victoria acknowledges the passing of Life Member and past President, Geoff Hare OAM.
Geoff served Swimming in Victoria as a volunteer technical official and administrator for more than 60 years and was awarded Life Membership in 1976.
Generations of Victorian swimmers, coaches, parents, and fellow officials interacted with Geoff through his many roles, mostly on pool deck officiating and supporting the development of officials, but also behind the scenes as he contributed to the administrative and governance functions of the sport including as a Director, State Team Manager and Selector for the V.A.S.A (Victorian Amateur Swimming Association, now known as Swimming Victoria)
From club and local meets through to district and championship events both in Melbourne and throughout the State, Geoff was a constant presence, helping to ensure that opportunities to participate and develop in the sport were available.
Geoff was also keen to record the history of Swimming in Victoria and contributed to the publication of 'A Century of Swimming in Victoria - The First 100', a historical record from our beginning in 1893 to the many successes and highlights of Victorian swimmers throughout the years, both locally and on the international stage.
Geoff was highly active at national and also international level, where his contribution and lengthy service as an official and administrator were recognised with Life Membership of Swimming Australia.
Swimming Victoria offers our condolence to Geoff’s family and many friends.
