Swimming Victoria (SV) is deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Margaret Hanlon on 9 June. SV and the wider swimming community extends its sincere condolences to Margaret’s family.

At the age of 95, Margaret was Swimming Victoria’s oldest Life Member. She attended many of our functions and special occasions over the years and loved to keep up with what was happening at SV. She was awarded with a Service Award in 1987 and Life Membership in 1997.

Margaret’s involvement with Swimming Victoria began in the 60s and she worked tirelessly for the organisation for many years. She was one of the founding members of the SV Trading Shop, where she worked for several years and travelled to a number of Country Championships, which was a great earner for SV. She also served Swimming Victoria’s Trophy Registrar for countless years.

Margaret’s contribution to swimming is outstanding and she will be remembered fondly by many in the Victorian swimming community.

A service to celebrate the life of Margaret will be held at St Andrew’s Church, 228 New St Brighton on Friday 17 June at 2:00pm. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the St Andrew’s Organ Restoration Fund. Envelopes will be available at the service.

Vale Margaret Hanlon. May she rest in peace.
