SCHOOL SPORT VICTORIA
Swimming Victoria has a partnership with School Sport Victoria.
School Sport Victoria (SSV) is the peak body for School Sport in Victoria. SSV is a sub-committee of the Department of Education and Early Childhood Development.
School Sport Victoria is a merge of the Victorian Primary Schools' Sports Association and the Victorian Secondary Schools' Sports Association that occurred during 2009 and was established January 1, 2010.
School Sport Victoria's purpose is to actively promote school sport for all Victorian school students as a means of supporting schools programs in developing their students' health and wellbeing. School Sport Victoria will do this by:
- providing strategic leadership for Victorian School Sport;
- providing regular sporting competition that embraces an educational approach in developing students’ appreciation and carriage of respected community values;
- advocating recognition for School Sport leadership at all levels;
- maximising participation opportunities for all school students in competition that is commensurate with their age and ability;
- promoting school and community partnerships through sport; and
- governing SSV to promote the efficient and effective administration of School Sport.

GUIDELINES TO RUNNING A SCHOOL CARNIVAL
Swimming Victoria has developed a guide to support schools and staff with assistance in the running of School, District and Regional swimming carnivals.
Consideration must be given to how all students are to be included in swimming carnivals. The emphasis for any event at any level for school students should be enjoyment and ensuring that everyone is given an opportunity to improve, through a positive experience.
This document contains things such as example timelines, program examples for regular day and wet weather, sample job descriptions for a school/local carnival and suggested equipment.
This booklet is to be used as a guide only, so please adapt it to suit the needs of your school.

RELATIONSHIPS BETWEEN SCHOOLS AND SWIMMING CLUBS
Swimming Victoria has been working closely with the School Sport Victoria Swimming Sub Committee throughout 2012. A major focus area has been to develop an opportunity for schools to seek support from their local swimming club and for the local swimming club to make contact with schools where they may be able to assist with some of the following - facilities, officials, conducting encouragement events for school students, assisting teachers in preparing their school team for the local swimming sports. To facilitate this, a letter templates have been created which schools & clubs can personalise to forward to the local swimming club/school seeking an opportunity to chat about how they may be able to work together.
