In an exciting boost for multi-class swimming, Swimming Australia has introduced a pilot for the inclusion of multi-class athletes at the 2018 State Teams Championships. Up to 4 athletes may be selected, two females aged 13-16yrs and two males aged 14-17yrs.

They will join a team of up to 44 athletes and 9 coaches who will be selected to represent Victoria and travel to the AIS in Canberra to take part in the annual State vs State competition. Two team managers, an athlete mentor and a physiotherapist will also travel with the team.

Selection on the State Team forms a vital part of the Athlete & Coach Pathway and is a key avenue for national team selection.

Athletes are selected based on their performance at the Victorian Age SC Championships (31 Aug-2 Sep), with athletes and coaches to be notified by Tuesday 4 September. Due to the tight turn around between the selection competition and the team departing, athletes wishing to be considered for selection must complete and return an Athlete Availability Form by 5pm Sunday 2 September.

Selection events have been added to the Victorian Age SC Championships Event Listing specifically for those MC athletes wanting to be considered for selection for the 2018 State Team. Athletes will be ranked based on Multi Class Point Score (MCPS) across the following 5 events:

  •          100m Freestyle
  •          100m Breaststroke
  •          100m Backstroke
  •          100m Butterfly
  •          200m IM

The team will travel to Canberra on Tuesday 2 October for pre-meet training, with competition taking place from 3-5 October. There will also be a training day at MSAC on Saturday 22 September.

More information including athlete applications and selection criteria can be found on the State Teams section of the website here.
