Swimming greats honoured with naming of awards

In the lead up to the 2018 Swimming Victoria and asctaVIC Awards, we are excited to celebrate our history with the naming of awards in honour of some of our Victorian swimming greats.  

The Nicole Livingstone Trophy

Awarded to the most outstanding Victorian competitor in the current season, the Victorian Swimmer of the Year Award has been named The Nicole Livingstone Trophy. Nicole is one of our most decorated athletes and a Life Member of Swimming Victoria. She won a Bronze medal at the 1992 Barcelona Olympics and Silver and Bronze medals at the 1996 Atlanta Olympics. She was awarded the Order of Australia Medal in 1997 for her service to swimming at state, national and international levels.

The Ellie Cole Trophy

The Victorian Multi-Class Swimmer of the Year Award recognises the most outstanding Victorian Multi-Class competitor in the current season. This award has been named The Ellie Cole Trophy. Ellie competed at the Beijing and London Paralympics as a Victorian, winning Silver and Bronze in Beijing and an amazing 4 Gold and 2 Bronze in London. She also won 2 Gold, 3 Silver and a Bronze medal at the Rio Olympics while swimming in New South Wales. Now located in Queensland, she competed at the recent Commonwealth Games on the Gold Coast, winning a Silver and Bronze medal.

The Linley Frame Trophy for Breaststroke

Formerly the Breaststroke Award, The Linley Frame Trophy for Breaststroke is awarded to the swimmer achieving the highest FINA Point Score for a breaststroke event in the current season. Linley was a World Champion in 1991 and competed at the 1992 Barcelona Olympics. She was World Masters Champion in 2009 and three-time World Masters Champion in 2014 and 2017. Linley continues to contribute significantly to Victorian swimming and was awarded Life Membership of Swimming Victoria in 2017.

The Andrew Lauterstein Trophy for Butterfly

The Butterfly Award has been named The Andrew Lauterstein Trophy for Butterfly and is presented to the swimmer achieving the highest FINA Point Score for a butterfly event in the current season. Andrew won a Bronze medal in the 100m Butterfly at the 2008 Beijing Olympics. He also won Gold in the 4x100m Medley Relay at the 2007 World Championships and Bronze at the 2009 World Championships.

The Rob Woodhouse Trophy for Individual Medley

The Individual Medley Award has been named after Rob Woodhouse. Born and raised in Melbourne, Rob won a Bronze medal at the 1984 Olympics in the 400m IM and was awarded Life Membership of Swimming Victoria in 1992. The Rob Woodhouse Trophy for Individual Medley is presented to the swimmer achieving the highest FINA Point Score for an individual medley event in the current season.

The awards will take place on Sunday 3 June from 3:30pm in the Champions Room, Melbourne Sports and Aquatic (MSAC).
