23 Victorian swimmers from 11 clubs headed west for the Australian Open Water Championships in Busselton WA from 24-27 January. It was one of the biggest Victorian contingents we’ve seen at these Championships and our swimmers did not disappoint!

Day 1 delivered 4 medallists, a strong start by the Vics. It was an incredible effort by Cheltenham’s Tommy Lane (coached by Kelly Stubbins) who won Gold in the Men’s 19 Years 10km. He went on to claim Bronze in the Men’s 19 Years 5km on the final day of racing. Well done Tommy!

In the Girl’s 10km Mackenzie Hunter (MLC Aquatic, coached by Jayden Brian) and Dakoda Mathers (Nunawading, coached by Michal Skrodzki) did us proud, both taking home Bronze medals in the Girl’s 18 Years and 19 Years respectively. The girls backed it up on the last day in the 5km event, claiming another Bronze each to wrap up a successful campaign.

Melbourne Swimming Club’s Sophie Jacka (coached by Ian Pope) also took home Bronze in the Girl’s 16 Years 7.5km, a huge effort by Sophie!

Congratulations to all our Victorian swimmers and their coaches on their fantastic results:
