For the first time in a number of years Swimming Victoria will send a team to represent Victoria at an international swimming meet. 8 athletes who are on the pathway to senior team selection will travel to Singapore next month to compete at the 2018 Singapore National Championships.
This opportunity will provide invaluable travel and race experience for athletes and coaches to perform on the world stage as we support their continued development and preparation into Tokyo 2020 and beyond. The targeted age groups are 17 years and over for females, and 18 years and over for males.
Following the Australian Selection Trials on the Gold Coast and Australian Age Championships in Sydney, athletes who achieved the required times were then ranked based on FINA points with the top 4 males and top 4 females selected.
2 coaches were also selected for the tour. One of them, Jason Cooper (Firbank Aquastars), is honoured to have been selected. “I’m keen to expand my experience as a coach in dealing with a variety of swimmers in an international tour situation. I’m looking forward to assisting the swimmers to achieve their best possible outcomes from the tour” he said.
Firbank swimmer, Samuel Williamson will join Cooper on the tour. “Sam is excited at the prospect of experiencing international travel and competition for the first time. This opportunity is something he has been targeting and is looking forward to the challenges ahead” Cooper said.
