COVID-19 UPDATE - Community Sport Restrictions

02 July 2020
Swimming Victoria important update
Written by: Swimming Victoria

Following Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews’ announcements yesterday afternoon on the lockdown of COVID-19 hotspots, Swimming Victoria have worked through how this affects the current return to swimming process.

Stage three restrictions have gone into effect in 10 postcode areas on 11.59 PM on Wednesday, 1 July 2020 and remain in place through to Wednesday, 29 July 2020.

Swimming Victoria reiterates that as per the advice of the Chief Medical Officer, individuals who live in these postcodes are not allowed to attend any Swimming Victoria affiliated trainings, programs, meetings or events. This includes all club activity.

It is important to note that whilst exercise is allowed as part of the restrictions in these areas, organised club training does not fall within the guidelines of approved exercise. Individuals residing in the lockdown areas are only be permitted to leave home for four reasons: food and supplies, medical and caregiving, exercise and work and education if it can’t be done from home. Community sport training and competition cannot occur within a restricted postcode. If you live in an impacted area you cannot participate in community sport elsewhere.

The information contained here applies as at 9:00 AM on Wednesday 1st July 2020 to the following postcodes:

3012: Brooklyn, Kingsville, Maidstone, Tottenham, West Footscray

3021: Albanvale, Kealba, Kings Park, St Albans

3032: Ascot Vale, Highpoint City, Maribyrnong, Travancore

3038: Keilor Downs, Keilor Lodge, Taylors Lake, Watergardens

3042: Airport West, Keilor Park, Niddrie

3046: Glenroy, Hadfield, Oak Park

3047: Broadmeadows, Dallas, Jacana

3055: Brunswick South, Brunswick West, Moonee Vale, Moreland West

3060: Fawkner

3064: Craigieburn, Donnybrook, Mickleham, Roxburgh Park, Kalkallo

We understand this is a difficult time, and we all have our part to play in stopping the spread of the virus.

We appreciate and acknowledge the effort and diligence of our clubs in consultation with local council and venues to ensure that any return to swimming is done safely and within our Return to Swimming guidelines and State Government of Victoria restrictions.

Most importantly, whether you are in a restricted post code or not - stay safe – continue to practice social distancing, and follow hand, cough and sneeze hygiene. If you have even mild symptoms, consider getting tested.
