88 Victorian swimmers battled it out with swimmers in various venues across the country at the 2020 Hancock Prospecting Virtual Short Course from 26-28 November.

The events took place in Melbourne (MSAC), Sydney (SOPAC), Brisbane (Chandler), Perth (Venues West) and Hobart (Hobart Aquatic Centre) – swum as four sessions of timed finals and held as close to simultaneously as possible.

There were more than just bragging rights on the line with prize money up for grabs for both athletes and coaches in a one-off opportunity kindly provided by Hancock Prospecting.

The swimming was strong, and records tumbled across the country. For Victorians, this represented the first time on deck in many months for the athletes, coaches and technical officials.

Here’s how they stacked up…

Firbank’s Samual Williamson was on fire in the Men’s 100m Breaststroke, breaking a seven year Australian Record with his time of 57.00 which saw him finish in 2nd place overall.  He couldn’t be beaten in the Men’s 50m Breaststroke, taking out the top spot in 26.41.

Matthew Temple (Nunawading) was in fine form, taking out the trifecta in the Men’s Butterfly events. It was another epic battle between him and teammate Bowen Gough in the Men’s 200m Butterfly, Temple narrowly claiming the win, posting 1:52.25 ahead of Gough (1:52.81).

It was a top effort from Melbourne Vicentre’s Kotuku Ngawati who swam herself into second place in the Women’s 100m IM in 59.44. Equally impressive was Vicentre teammate Tara Kinder who also claimed second in the Women’s 200m Breaststroke (2:23.30).

In the Multi Class events, Nicholas Layton (Western Melbourne Propulsion) was a strong performer, finishing second in the Men’s MC 50m Butterfly (25.12) and 100m Freestyle (52.24). Rising star Dylan Logan (Geelong) claimed second in the Men’s MC 50m Backstroke (27.88) and Melbourne Vicentre’s Ashleigh McConnell finished second overall in the Women’s MC 50m Freestyle (29.11).

Well done to all our Victorian athletes, coaches and officials! Full results of all sessions from all five states can be found here.
