Vale Bruce Welch

Swimming Victoria is deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Bruce Welch. SV and the wider swimming community extends its deepest sympathies to his family.

Bruce’s contribution to Victorian swimming is outstanding. Vice President of Swimming Victoria  from 1987-2002 and Chief Referee from 1983-1993, Bruce was a long-standing Swimming Victoria Official and passionate about the training and development of Technical Officials. A member of the Malvern Swimming Club, he received a Swimming Victoria Service Award in 1980.

After leaving Victoria, Bruce continued his work for swimming in the Gold Coast region where he continued to train Technical Officials.

In 2005 he was awarded an OAM for service to swimming as a referee and administrator and through the education of Technical Officials.

He is survived by his wife Nancy (nee Lyons – 1948 Olympian) and two of his three children. We thank Bruce for his many years of contribution to swimming both in Victoria and  Queensland.

Vale Bruce Welch. May he rest in peace.
